A rich, full-bodied Sumatran from the highlands around Lake Tawar.

Takengon sits in Aceh’s Gayo highlands, ringed by the mountains around Lake Tawar, where coffee grows at 1,300 meters. It’s wet-hulled the traditional Sumatran way — the parchment is hulled while the bean is still wet — which is what gives Sumatra its famously deep, heavy body. This coffee comes from Ihtiyeri Keti Ara (PT IKA), a family-run exporter in Takengon, and it’s a true micro lot: only fully ripe red cherries, hand-picked at peak sweetness.

In the cup: cane sugar, molasses, black cherry and chocolate — rich and buttery with a big, full body. Roasted medium-dark.
